Positioning Grader
Is your devtool’s positioning cutting through?
Developer tools live or die by clarity. Grade your headline across five positioning dimensions and find out if developers actually get what you do.
What is AI startup positioning?
Positioning is the strategic act of defining how your startup occupies a unique, valuable space in your buyer's mind. For AI startups, this is especially critical because the market is flooded with companies claiming to be “AI-powered” — making it nearly impossible for buyers to distinguish one from another.
Strong positioning answers three questions instantly: What do you do? Who is it for? and Why should I care? When your headline nails all three, buyers self-select in seconds. When it doesn't, you lose them to a competitor who communicates more clearly.
This free positioning grader analyzes your headline across five evidence-based dimensions — clarity, specificity, differentiation, brevity, and value clarity — and returns an instant scored assessment with actionable suggestions. Your headline is analyzed by AI (Gemini 2.0 Flash) for personalized feedback. No data is stored, no signup required.
Frequently asked questions
Positioning is how your startup occupies a distinct, valuable space in your buyer's mind. Strong positioning means buyers immediately understand what you do, who it's for, and why they should care — which directly impacts conversion rates, sales cycle length, and word-of-mouth growth.
The grader analyzes your headline across 5 dimensions: Clarity, Specificity, Differentiation, Brevity, and Value Clarity. Each dimension is scored by Gemini 2.0 Flash AI, which evaluates your specific headline contextually — not just pattern-matching keywords. The AI provides personalized feedback and rewrites unique to your positioning. If the AI is unavailable, the grader falls back to instant local heuristics so you always get a result.
Great AI startup positioning avoids generic buzzwords like "AI-powered platform" and instead names a specific audience, a concrete problem, and a clear outcome. The best headlines could only describe one company — yours. They're short enough to remember and specific enough to self-select the right buyer.
Absolutely. While the buzzword detection is tuned for AI/tech startups, the core dimensions — clarity, specificity, differentiation, brevity, and value clarity — apply to any startup or product headline regardless of industry.
Your headline is sent to Google’s Gemini API for AI-powered analysis, but it is not stored by us or by Google beyond the request. No account or personal information is collected. The only other data transmitted is anonymous analytics events (e.g., "grader completed") to help us improve the tool.
Start with your lowest-scoring dimension. The most common fixes: replace buzzwords with specific mechanism language, name your exact audience instead of "businesses" or "teams," and end with a concrete outcome the buyer cares about. Then re-test. Most startups can jump 20+ points in one rewrite.
